Blog #1:
Hi everyone, I figured I should make a blog section on here so everyone can get updates on the production process. I’m working on finding a “coder” for this site to make it look really good, because I won’t have the time to put into it once production starts.
But let’s get to it! Today I finished the first draft of Marble Hornets. In case you couldn’t tell I finally decided on the name. It was very difficult for me because it needed to be something thematically significant to the plot, but the plot has so many significant moments and points to choose from. I felt bad having to throw out all the other titles I had in mind. Maybe I can use them for all of the great projects that come after this one!
That’s all I have for right now!

I was finally able to reserve a room in the film school’s building to do the first casting call of Marble Hornets. I’m so excited to hear the script finally spoken aloud! I did a few read throughs on my own, of course, but that’s not quite the same as hearing the words from someone who thinks they can play one of the many varied characters I have for them.
Giving my characters over to someone else feels strange. I know that in the audition period I’m not quite giving them the characters, more like a brief rental before they’re returned to me. But I still feel like I’m giving away a part of me. I wrote this script over so many years that I feel like these characters can’t belong to anyone but me.
That’s probably just me being overly analytical again. I do that a lot. Anyway, if you’re reading this and are interested in auditioning, come on down! Here’s a link to the flyer I made and hung all around campus. Feel free to print it out too and spread the word!

Just got back from the casting call, and I must say that it went very well! The turnout was way higher than I thought it would be and that’s saying something, ha ha!
I’m going to need to go back and look at the tapes of all the auditions again and compare them with my notes. I know of a few standouts but I really want to give everyone that came a second look because I might’ve missed a moment of genius in there when writing things down. I think everyone deserves the same chance as everyone else. I bet a lot of directors don’t do that these days, honestly.

Blog #4:
I’ve got the movie cast! Well technically not entirely, but the characters of Tim and Brian are! Those of you that came to the audition or saw the sides probably noticed that there was no character named Tim, but it’s the name I’m replacing the “friend” character with. However in a lucky twist, Brian Thomas has been cast as the character “Brian”, and Tim Wright is cast as the friend, so I figured “why not?” I’ll just make that character named Tim as well! Movies can be really strange like that sometimes.
After hearing the script spoken aloud I think I’m going to spend a few days punching up the dialogue to make it flow better. It flowed nicely in my head but that was before I was around potential actors with different cadences to their voices. Sometimes you know the exact person you’re going to cast only to have it changed around by who you have to work with.

Blog #5:
I’ve spent the past few days punching up the script now that I know the actors I have at my disposal. Most of what I’ve done centers around changing up a few lines of dialogue and action for the character of Tim. I’m mainly doing this because, upon further thought, I should make the character of Tim mesh better with the actor of Tim, who is also Tim. Two reasons I felt I should do this. One being the fact that I don’t want Tim the actor to have to stretch himself too much more than the other actors, since he’s not been in a film before. The second is that I want his first experience to be a good one! I’m taking a chance with him but I know he won’t disappoint me.
In other news, I may be going out on a location scout soon. I’m planning on bringing my camera with me this time to get a few shots for later reference. If I can remember, which I probably will, I’ll be sure to share any non-spoiler locations on here for everyone to see!

Blog #6:
I went out and did that location scout about a week ago, but then came down with something that took me out of commission for a few days. Luckily it didn’t push back the schedule too badly, and I’m feeling fine now!
Anyway I found a few decent places for some scenes I have in mind. I think I’ll post some of the shots I got in a few days after I have time to look through them all.

Blog #7:
As promised here’s some raw footage from my location scout! I did a few test camera moves, as you can probably tell :)

Things are coming along nicely! I shot a screen test with Brian today. I wanted to make sure he’s is comfortable in the character’s skin before the cameras roll for real. He was fairly impressive considering it’s the first time he’s read the most up to date script.
It probably won’t be that interesting to anyone not looking at it from a director’s perspective, but here’s a link to some of the raw footage from today:

Later variations on this email would change the "there are footsteps" line to "i know where you are".
When users went to marblehornets.com/iknowwhereyouare, they would find an image entitled "ionodtdt", an anagram for "dontdoit".

On either side were fourty four periods. Note the figure standing in front of the doors.
In Blog #6, the period in A. Kralie out had a link attached to it. Users would be sent to marblehornets.com/donotanswer, with a .gif entitled "knockknockknock".

In the page source, users found an audio file entitled "44444444444_.wav", an audio file that beeped fourty four times.
The video in Blog #7 was previously unreleased footage from Alex, perhaps being created prior to the audition or Marble Hornets as a whole. He goes location scouting alone in this video, and nothing odd seems to happen.
The description reads with a message that Alex himself did not put in. It reads, "We're Always With You". Going to marblehornets.com/werealwayswithyou revealed yet another page, titled "dyhf?"
On it was a nearly impossible code. However, one user broke the code, and found another unlisted video on the Marble Hornets channel, called "do you hear footsteps?" The contents of the video are a blue static, however, the audio is that of a missing person alert, matching that of Tim's description.
On Blog #8, another video was released. Alex believes that its contents are that of a screen test he did with Brian, however, it is not. Instead, it is a black screen reading ERROR, with a poem that appears slowly.
"Listen down the hallway
when you're all alone
there are quiet footsteps coming
today they're in your home"
Users went to marblehornets.com/lwtt, finding a locked page. After finding this, in August, the Twitter would then post again, asking if its viewers were awake before the YouTube account would start posting non-supplementary updates again. These videos told a short story about a man (affectionately dubbed Birdwatcher by both the video titles and the viewers), and another hooded man (affectionately dubbed Walker). Birdwatcher, an investigator who is suffering from extreme (though undisclosed) mental issues that pertain to stress, watches birds and illustrates them to calm himself, a strategy created by his psychologist to help him with his stress and his apparent divorce. Walker, on the other hand, is a humanoid in a black hoodie and jeans, also wearing black gloves. His face is static and he also shows the ability to phase through solid objects. Birdwatcher is simply an ordinary man, however, simply with a crippled leg (for unknown reasons).
Birdwatcher begins to realize that he's declining in mental state when things that don't make any sense begin to happen around him. They're like dreams, except they actually happen and he experiences them in real life; for example, the door ringing and as he goes to get it, a black figure with white eyes (unnamed) tackles him from behind. He awakens, calling his psychologist and telling him about the experience, then going to answer the door. When he exits, he is in a blinding light field, and his leg is no longer crippled. However, his psychologist tells him to brush them off as dreams; if he removes them from reality, they cannot harm him.
Walker breaks into someone's home after stealing a jar of medication from a store as he begins to stuff its contents into his static face. The owner of the home returns, as Walker hides, and then murders and presumably consumes the man when the chance is right.
When Birdwatcher's medication is delivered to help him sleep, Walker sees this and decides to enter his home as he sleeps. Walker attempts to consume him, but is unable to, and Birdwatcher is able to fend him off, however, using his cane after Walker wakes him up. Birdwatcher once again falls asleep at his front door in paranoia, waiting for an entity to return.
The next upload is that of another unknown figure, masked; asking if the viewers enjoyed the suffering of Birdwatcher and if they wanted to see more, asking what was wrong with the viewers, ending the video off with a "regards", possibly inferring that there was a third totheark member who did not die and set the Clear Lakes 44 uploads up (Seth, if one is to dig through all of the information in Marble Hornets and comprise a sensible theory).
Birdwatcher would awaken in the next episode, going to his television to find static. He peers through it as it reads "are you awake". He presses his hand against the screen as it appears to shock him, Birdwatcher falling to the ground. The Walker appears on screen and hunches over him, likely consuming him, but the static covers the screen before any discernable things can happen.
The next and final upload is that of someone (presumably Birdwatcher's widow) calling him, saying that she hasn't heard from him in a while and that she got a new job at some other place.
